'Calendar Girls' Bare it All in Name of Alzheimer's Research
A group of aging but daring elderly women Down Under have come up with a novel way to raise funds for Alzheimer's research -- they'll strip to the buff to pose for a pinup calendar.
This is the second time the Australian women have done this. The first time was in 2001. This time, they're just a bit older is all, says a "calendar girl" spokeswoman.
The group of "elderly ladies," hailing from South Arm, near Hobart, in Australia, hope to raise $10,000 to $15,000 for Alzheimer's research with the ?"Bare to be Different" calendar for 2005.
"Positive aging, a lot of fun, a bit of daring, just the fact that laughter is good and being old is fun too," said Bev Lee, one of the 2001 calendar girls, when asked why the calendar.Ms. Lee, who is producing this edition of the calendar, said funds from sale of the calendar will go to Australia 's Dementia and Alzheimer's Association -- in addition to providing a clear message from the ladies about what it means to grow old.
